The Link will contribute to the growth and revitalisation of Perth, engaging with surrounding areas and rejuvenating inner city living.
The project site has long housed an uninviting mix of services, car parks, rail and bus infrastructure, framed by busy roads to create a barrier in the centre of the city. This is all about to change.
The Link will reunite the Perth city centre with the Northbridge entertainment district and complement other developments and changes in our capital city. It will deliver a range of benefits for the community including improved public safety, access and connectivity, increased residential, retail and commercial opportunities and a high quality public domain. In supporting the growth and evolution of Perth as an enjoyable and safe place for people, the project aims to:
- Facilitate the creation of an urban environment that complements and supports the existing character and enterprises in the area.
- Generate increased levels of activity, vitality and opportunities for living and working in the city centre.
As the State experiences an economic boom of unrivalled magnitude, it is critical we embrace the opportunity to plan for Perth’s future and create smart designs that will suit the needs of the population for years to come. Research undertaken by KPMG and Colliers International shows that:
- Almost 60% of household growth over the next 20 years will be singles and couples without children. These are the types of households that are more likely to be interested in city apartments.
- The inner city is on the verge of having a population size that will make it a more vibrant and interesting place to live, and this will see the continued increase in the popularity of inner city living.
- Office space is experiencing a record low vacancy rate and demand continues to rise.
- By 2012 the Perth CBD office market is forecast to increase by 30% or almost 340,000m2.
- By 2031 Perth will need between 290,000m2 and 390,000m2 more office space than will exist in 2012.
The Link will play a key role in meeting these changing needs as Perth continues to evolve.
The Link is part of the bigger picture for Perth, and along with other development and regeneration projects in the area, it will contribute to the ongoing improvement of the city as a place of enjoyment and appeal.
